The National Anthem of UKRAINE was performed on March 5, by the Tokyo New City Orchestra

The National Anthem of UKRAINE was performed on March 5, by the Tokyo New City Orchestra, in the hope that peace would come back as early as possible to the nation, which is now suffering a military invasion by Russian troops.

At their regular concert at Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre, the orchestra decided to give an extra performance of the Ukrainian National Anthem.

The National Anthem of Ukraine is entitled、“UKRAINE will never be ruined”.

This idea of performing the national anthem was proposed by an NPO which called for  the performance to be photographed and spread over SNS, as well as donations for the Ukrainian people under oppression.

Ms. Fusako Yanase, Honorable President of Association for Aid and Relief, Japan commented: ”I was deeply moved by their resonance. I sincerely hope that each person’s wish will reach to the people in need.”

A member of the audience said: “It was wonderful that they performed the Ukraine National Anthem on such an occasion. It will bring people’s attention to PEACE”

The hall was filled with applause and prayer for peace in Ukraine.

The national anthem was sung, accompanied by the Tokyo New City Orchestra, by Ms. Masako Shindo, a soprano singer well known as being able to sing 150 national anthems of the world in the countries’ own languages. She is a co-representative of the Research Institute of National Flags and Anthems of the World. After this performance, inquiries have been pouring in, regarding similar possible collaborations from various organizations and symphony orchestras. Simultaneously, donations to above-mentioned

AAR(Association for Aid and Relief, Japan) are rapidly increasing.

AAR has sent one of its staff to Warsaw, Poland on the 7th and three to Moldova on the 8th. What they are trying to do is, with the cooperation of Catholic monasteries such as

Innocent St. Maria Monastery Churches in Poland and Ukraine,  support refugees from Ukraine as well as domestic refugees.

Additional information: The orchestra’s name will change to Pacific Philharmonic Tokyo from April 1, 2022.
